Let's Not Turn Our Backs . . .

This evening I watched the documentary "Darfur Now" for the fifth time. It has to be interesting to watch a documentary five times. I guess the whole genocide thing gets me. Actually what gets me is how we here in the western world turn a blind eye to what's happening in different areas of Africa. It really hit me last November when we had the opportunity to visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre. To read stories of those who survived, walk through rooms full of pictures of those who died. What hit me the hardest was passing through a room where they perserved clothing, bones and skulls of the victims. Then walking the paths through and around the mass graves . . . unbelievable . . . words can't express what you feel as you walk through a room with faces of children and description of how they died.

Since 1994 the Congolese people have lived amongst strife and civil war. People killing there own people, you know, genocide. Since 1998, an estimated 5.4 million people have died from war and it's lingering effects. An estimated 45,000 people continue to die each month. This makes me absolutely sick to my stomach. The amazing thing is the smiles you see on the faces of the Congolese people, especially those who know Jesus. Please pray for these countries . . . DRC, Rwanda, Darfur (Sudan) and Africa in general. Let's not turn away from them . . . lets turn towards them so that they can see a face of hope and love.
