Yesterday morning I was in Winnipeg for the first of two injections in my back. These injections consist of a combination of freezing, cordizone and a long lasting steroid. The injection goes directly into the joints of the lower and upper lumbar of the spine . . .
Ouch!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have to be honest with you . . . this procedure is not a lot of fun. Even as I waited in my lovely hospital gown, I became more and more nervous. When I got into the room, the nurse proceeded to talk about the size of the needles . . . two or three times she said, "These are like two inches long". To top it off, she then opened them and laid them on the tray in front of me . . . this was about the time my stomach became quite queezy!!!
Finally I was able to lay down on the table . . . when I noticed a screen in front of me. The next thing I felt was a pinch and my back went numb . . . I looked up and watched on the screen as the needles began their journey towards my spine. Then I heard the three words you never want to hear from your surgeon, "Oops, I missed."
The muscles on the left side of my back went into spasm, knocking the needle away from the spine. Thus began the aggressive attempts ( 5 of them) to get the needle in the joint. Okay, lets be honest here . . . no matter how much freezing is in one's back, I felt everyone of his attempts (yes all 5!!) Finally on attempt number 6 he got it . . . PRAISE THE LORD!!!!!
Ten minutes later I was done. Once I got my sea legs back, I headed back to the change room. All I could think about was, "One down, one to go."
Now I know what to expect . . . next week should be a breeze. Please pray for me next Tuesday morning at 8:00 as I go in for another round of stabbing. Pray that this procedure will work so that surgery can be avoided. Pray that the injections and the physio therapy will help in strengthening my back so that the Lord can use us effectively here and in the mission field.
On the lighter side of things . . . pray for my surgeon . . . that his aim would be one of "Perfection!!!"
